France, August 2014 - Part 2

During our stay in Beaulieu, we visited a small village further south called Autoire. It was a very small, but beautiful, French village home to an interesting ensemble of buildings and a 30 metre high cascade which was quite impressive.

While we were here I took one of my favourite photos ever of this amazingly coloured dragonfly.

There were also some very nice shops in the centre which were nice to look in and to look at. They were also surrounded by many beautiful flowers which really caught my eye.

I decided to focus on the flowers for a while because I thought they were way too beautiful to ignore. Also, hanging from most buildings, were grape vines which I thought was very unusual but I guess France is very different to England!

The walk to the cascade wasn't that long, maybe 15-20 minutes, but there was a very cute house on the way which I couldn't resist taking a photo of.

When we reached the bottom of the cascade we realised there was some more walking to do to get to the actual thing. We crossed some stones and carried ourselves up to it. It was very beautiful and definitely worth the walk, we didn't stay long but I think I managed to capture the grace of it.

Once we left Autoire we travelled west to a neighbouring village called Carrenac. Carrenac is also a very beautiful French village home to a great church and a castle running along side it.

The main window in the church was amazing and the stain glass detailing was super, it really brought the church to life and is definitely the best stained-glass window I have ever seen.

The streets of Carrenac were quite quiet and we didn't say as long because it was quite late in the afternoon. However, the buildings looked very medieval and overall the place was very relaxing.

Thanks for reading! The next part will be posted soon:)

France, August 2014 - Part 1

In the summer holidays last year, I went on a camping holiday to France for two weeks. The first week we went to Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, a medieval town in central France. The weather wasn't the best but it was still a very beautiful place.
The town was amazing, the people were very friendly and there were a few bakeries which all sold delicious French pastries. Every morning one of us would go into town and buy croissants, pan au chocolate and 2 baguettes for breakfast. There was the beautiful abbey of St. Pierre in the centre of the town which you could explore inside.

On the campsite you could see the church lit up at night and I really wanted to see it up close, so I went on a night time adventure to take a look, as you can see it looked very mysterious.

I liked to just go on walks alone because the area was very relaxing and it gave me a break from my family in the tent. I do love them, it just got a bit crowded at times. The streets of Beaulieu were very medieval and I loved the window shutters on the houses.

Most afternoons we went and sat by the river and fed the ducks. The first time we went there was a market on where you bought meat from one stall and could go to the next and get it cooked right there for you to eat by the river.

The riverside was by far my favourite place to just sit, think and take photos. It was very peaceful and sometimes there were people playing bowls which gave it a very French atmosphere.

The ducks were very amusing and they were not afraid to come up close and steal some food from us. Once we started feeding one duck, we had to feed them all. They started flying in from half way across the river and landed like mini aeroplanes.

Thanks for reading, I will post another part soon:)
